William Ponall, Board Certified Criminal Appellate Attorney

William Ponall is Board Certified by the Florida Bar in Criminal Appellate Law. He is one of fewer than 25 private attorneys in the State of Florida who holds that designation. In order to become Board Certified in Criminal Appeals, Mr. Ponall had to meet rigorous standards of education and experience, receive positive reviews from judges and other attorneys, and pass an exhaustive written examination.

William Ponall has over 13 years of experience arguing State and Federal criminal appeals and post-conviction matters throughout the State of Florida. He has a proven record of success in cases involving homicides, sexual offenses, DUI Manslaughter, and other serious offenses. In state court, Mr. Ponall has handled cases in various circuit courts, and the First, Second, Fourth, and Fifth District Courts of Appeal. In the Fifth District Court of Appeal alone, Mr. Ponall has handled more than 120 cases. In federal court, Mr. Ponall has handled cases in all the federal district courts in Florida, and in the United State Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.

Prior to starting his own law firm, William Ponall was a partner with the law firms of Kirkconnell, Lindsey, Snure, Yates & Ponall, and Snure & Ponall. He gained valuable experience from some of the most experienced and well-respected attorneys in Orlando.

Prior to entering private practice, William Ponall served as a Staff Attorney for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit in Atlanta, Georgia. In that position, he assisted the judges on the Court reach their decisions on appeals involving issues of criminal law, sentencing, and post-conviction relief.

William Ponall was selected by his peers in the legal community as a Rising Star in 2012. He was also selected as a Super Lawyer in the area of Appellate Law in 2013, 2015, and 2016.

Mr. Ponall regularly speaks at seminars on issues addressing substantive criminal law, criminal appeals, and post-conviction relief. He has also had several articles published in the Briefs, a monthly magazine published by the Orange County Bar Association, and the Florida Defender, a monthly magazine published by the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers

Mr. Ponall served as the President of the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 2011 and 2012. He has also previously served on the Board of Directors for both the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Central Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. Currently, he is a member of the Amicus Committee and the Co-Chair of the Committee on Proposed Rules and Jury Instructions for the Florida Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.

Education

William Ponall graduated with Honors from the University of Florida and the University of Florida College of Law. While in law school, Mr. Ponall was a Teaching Assistant for the Legal Research and Appellate Advocacy Programs. He earned the Book Award for the highest class grade in Florida Constitutional Law and a scholarship for his outstanding performance in various classes related to Constitutional Law.
